The International Golf Federation (IGF) was changed to the International Golf Federation in 2003, and golf associations from 35 countries (regions) participated in the inaugural meeting. The organization is headquartered in New Jersey, USA. In 2010, the headquarters moved to Lausanne, Switzerland.

Golf originated in Scotland and prevailed throughout the country in the 15th century. According to Scottish historical records, in 1457, King James II of Scotland banned folk golf and forced his subjects to participate in archery that was beneficial to defending the country. But this movement is still being carried out quietly among the people. Therefore, it is generally believed that golf was developed from Scotland. After golf was introduced to the United Kingdom, it was introduced to India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Thailand and the United States in the 19th century. Golf was listed as an event in the 1900 and 1904 Olympic Games, but it is not an official event of the Olympic Games. Since 1953, professional athletes have held a World Cup every year. Amateur athletes men have held world championships every two years since 1958 and women since 1964. There are people from 120 countries or regions playing golf, with a population of 60 million. The TV coverage covers 550 million households in 230 countries or regions.

The 2009 International Individual Sports Federation Conference (formally renamed the International Sports Conference in 2009) adopted a vote to recruit the International Golf Federation as a new member. The International Golf Federation is one of the seven events participating in the competition to enter the 2016 Olympic Games. The other events are: squash, 7-a-side rugby, softball, baseball, roller skating and karate. In the end, golf and 7-a-side rugby are in the final vote. Win in.

The format recommended by the International Golf Federation is a 72-hole stroke play. The men’s and women’s matches are held separately, with 60 participants each. If there is a tie after the 72-hole game, there will be a 3-hole playoff to decide the winner. The top 15 players in the world will automatically qualify for the competition, and the remaining seats will be allocated to the top players in each country. However, those countries where the number of participants has reached or exceeded 2 people cannot redistribute places.
